Foster, Isom and Hiler take charge in tough season opener loss

Foster tied a career-high with 20 points

GOSHEN, Ind. - Kyla Foster tied a career-high in points, but the senior leader's effort wasn't enough in a season opener loss to IU-South Bend on Wednesday night. The Titans won 78-66.

The teams were tied 8-8 early when the Leafs went on an 11-6 run to go up five at the end of the first quarter. The Titans took a lead with under eight to go in the second quarter and their lead was as high as seven before returning to four at the half. Their lead grew to double-digits with five minutes to play in the third quarter.

Foster's 20 points tied her career-high set on February 12, 2022 against Mount Vernon Nazarene. She had her fifth career game with five or more assists and added three rebounds. Paulecia Isom scored 14 points off the bench. The freshman from Michigan City, Indiana was 5-11 from the field and 4-7 from three. Carrie Hiler also made four three-pointers, her career-high. She finished with 12 points - all ten of her field goal attempts were threes. Lillian Null filled the stat sheet with six points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. The three steals matches her career-high and the seven assists were her most since last season's opener.

Goshen competes in the USF Classic this weekend in Fort Wayne. The Leafs take on Cornerstone on Friday at 6:00 pm and Viterbo on Saturday at noon.
