#5 Bethel uses second half to pull past Goshen on homecoming weekend

The Leafs had their most goals against the Pilots since 2020

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen men's soccer lost to #5 Bethel, the highest ranked team in the Crossroads League, on their homecoming weekend game at the GC Soccer Complex. Although they were tied 2-2 at the half, three second-half goals led to a 5-2 win for the Pilots.

Bethel scored the first two goals of the match. The first came in the 20th minute and the next in the 28th minute, the latter on an unfortunate own goal. But just two minutes later, Stephen Bandi got the Maple Leafs on the board. Adrian Gonzalez Martinez sent in a through ball from the middle of the field and Bandi connected for his second goal of the season. Then, just four minutes later, the Leafs were awarded a penalty kick, and Eli Simones was able to connect for his fifth goal of the year. The teams went into the half tied 2-2.

While the number of shots didn't change much from the first to the second half, and although Goshen actually had more corner kick chances, Bethel added three more goals to make it two straight wins against the Leafs where they had scored five goals. Goshen's two goals against the Pilots was their most since 2020.

Bethel now has a 9-1-2 record this season and is 3-0-1 in league play. They had 16 shots and eight on goal and Goshen had nine shots and three on goal. Goshen's shots on goal came from Guilherme Moreira, Eli Simones and Stephen Bandi. Bandi and Moreira had two total shots.

Goshen hosts #10 Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday, October 11, at 6:00 pm for Senior Night.
