GC has strong first set start but drops three-set contest at #21 Taylor

The Trojans had nine aces to Goshen's one

UPLAND, Ind. - Despite a strong start in the first set, the Goshen women's volleyball team lost in three sets on the road at #21 Taylor. The Trojans won 25-17, 25-3, 25-12. With the win, Taylor improved their record to 15-7 this year.

Goshen started off with an 11-6 lead in the first set. The Leafs took advantage of Taylor attack errors, and the Trojans eventually had to use a timeout. After that point, however, the home team went on an 18-4 run, which included a 9-0 run that gave them a 24-15 lead and then a 25-17 win. Seven of Taylor's eight attack errors in the set came within the first 16 points scored in the match.

Taylor vastly improved in the second set, going from a .067 hitting percentage in the first set to a .455 in the next. Goshen, on the other hand, had no kills and a -.280 hitting percentage. It was 7-3 when the Trojans went on an 18-0 run to finish off the set. All of Goshen's points came from TU attack errors.

Taylor continued the rally by scoring the first three points in the third set before a kill from Brenna Spangler ended the Goshen drought. Spangler, Carmin Corey and Addison Ross added kills to make the score 7-6 in favor of the Trojans still. Yet the Trojans went on another dominant run, this time a 15-1 stretch, and went up 21-7 before winning the set 25-12 and taking the match 3-0.

Addison Ross had six of Goshen's 16 kills in the match and was one of two Maple Leafs, along with Brenna Spanger, to have a hitting percentage above .000. Sydney Stutsman had eight assists and Lydia Hernandez had five. Sami Lard led the Leafs with ten digs and had the team's only ace. Comparatively, the Trojans had nine. Spangler had two solo blocks and two block assists.
