COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Maple Leafs won their second straight game and improved to 3-2 on the season with a 75-64 win against IU-Columbus on Thursday at the Circle K Fieldhouse at NexusPark. Goshen held the Crimson Pride to shooting 1-15 from three.
The 3-2 start to the season marks Goshen's best five-game start to a year since going 4-1 in 2017. This is the first time the Leafs have won back-to-back games since November 13 and 16 a year ago. With IU-Columbus up 7-5, the Maple Leafs went on a 12-2 run to go up 17-9. The home team had a 12-4 run of their own to tie the game 21-21, but it was immediately answered by a 10-0 GC run. The Leafs held a seven-point 35-28 lead at the half.
Goshen had a strong start in the second half, going on a 9-1 run. The Leafs held a 16-point lead a couple of times, but it diminished to four with as little as 5:19 to go. From that point on, however, Goshen finished the game on a 15-8 run and won by 11.
Goshen tied a season-low in turnovers and tied a season-high in turnovers forced. The Leafs held IU-Columbus to 7% from three-point range, the lowest percentage they have allowed since East-West was 1-16 on October 27, 2020. The Leafs won the rebounding battle 35-25 and offensive rebounds 15-9.
Marcus Northern matched his career-high in steals, which was just set on Saturday, with another five steals tonight. He scored 19 points to lead all players on the court - his third game with 19 or more this season. He had four such games a year ago and three in the season before that.
Tyrelle Hunt tied a season high in total rebounds with nine, and doubled his previous season-high in offensive rebounds with four. He scored 14 points on 6-10 shooting and went 2-2 at the line.
Caleb Thompson played his most minutes in a game yet this season and recorded his first steal.
Kevin Cota scored nine,
Kenny May had eight and
Braden Allen added seven.
