MARION, Ind. - The #1 team in the NAIA showed why they are the #1 team in the NAIA on Wednesday night in Marion. Indiana Wesleyan defeated Goshen 108-61 in the Crossroads League opener.
The teams went back and forth early on and started tied 11-11 in the first five minutes. While Goshen never took a lead, they tied it four times. But after the first media timeout, the home team outscored Goshen 41-13 the rest of the half. They shot 56% from the field while the Leafs were at 25%.
Caedmon Bontrager had three fouls in the first 16 minutes for IWU, but he didn't have any more for the rest of the game and finished with 18 points. He was one of seven Wildcats that would finish in double figures. GC started the second half on a 7-2 run but Indiana Wesleyan had a 12-0 run later in the half to go up 80-42. They had a 14-0 run later to go up 103-56 before winning by 47 points.
The Wildcats ended up shooting 58% from the field and Goshen shot 36%. A big difference between the halves was the three-point shooting for IWU. They were 2-11 in the first half and 7-13 in the second. They outrebounded Goshen 44-22 and had just seven turnovers.
Braden Allen had a season-high with 12 points, which also tied a career-high mark. He was a perfect 6-6 at the free-throw line, tying a career-high for free-throws made.
Marcus Northern had 11 points and four rebounds - with eight points coming in the first half.
Tyrelle Hunt scored ten off the bench - he has scored at least nine points in all six games he has played this season.
Jacob Carlson had multiple three-pointers - his second straight game with the achievement and his third this season. He had four such occurrences all of last season.
Goshen (4-3, 0-1 CL) hosts #15 Bethel on Saturday, November 22, at 3:00 pm.
