GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen nearly overcame a double-digit deficit and had their most offensive rebounds in a game since 2017 in a wild 112-110 overtime loss against Northwestern Ohio on Saturday night.
The Racers quickly went up 10-0 to start the game. Their lead was as large as 16, which they had in the first half and again in the second half when they led 70-54. Goshen had a 9-0 run in a 2:15 span in the second half, and inched their way to their first lead of the game at 87-86 with 5:17 to go. Goshen led for a total of 68 seconds in regulation, but they did just enough to force overtime.
Down seven with 40 seconds to go in regulation,
Marcus Northern hit a three to put Goshen within three, and
Kamren Williams hit another three with 16 seconds to go. The Racers went 1-2 at the free-throw line after being fouled, and Goshen's
Tyrelle Hunt made a basket to tie the game 97-97. The Maple Leafs led for a brief 19 seconds in overtime. Williams hit a shot with 24 seconds left to give Goshen a 110-109 lead, but Kahlil Davis hit a three for UNOH with five seconds left.
Deecon Hill's half-court heave at the buzzer hit the back iron and the Racers escaped with a win.
Marcus Northern had career-highs with 24 points and five offensive rebounds for Goshen. He had never had more than two offensive rebounds in a game before. He had nine total rebounds.
Tyrelle Hunt had 24 points and nine rebounds of his own. He was 11-15 from the field and was the first Goshen player to make 11 field goals in a game since Karson Jenkins on January 13, 2024 against Taylor.
Kamren Williams had 19 off the bench and went a perfect 4-4 from three. After his first two games, he is 7-7 from three-point range. Branden Allen had a career-high five assists. Hunt and Williams had five each as well. The 21 offensive rebounds as a team are the most for Goshen since a 91-88 loss to Governors State on October 27, 2017.
