BRADERTON, Fla. - In their first of two games in the "Sunshine State", the Goshen men's basketball team defeated the New College of Florida Mighty Banyans 96-80 on Monday afternoon. Goshen is 4-3 against nonconference opponents this season and has scored 90+ points in three games.
This is Goshen's first time scoring 95 or more points in a win since December 16, 2024 against Midway. It's their first time doing so in a road game since defeating IU-Northwest in Gary on November 16, 2016.
The Mighty Banyans, named for the Banyan trees found throughout the campus, led early and went up ten at 19-9 with 13:50 to go in the first half. However, Goshen responded with a 39-14 run to end the half. The Maple Leafs led 48-33 as they headed into the locker room even though NCF led for 55% of the half. Goshen was shooting 55% while New College of Florida was at 36%.
Saiveon Williams had five points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal in the first half.
Goshen increased the lead to 19 in the second half but saw it dwindle to seven at one point. It was a part of a 20-8 run for the Mighty Banyans, but the Maple Leafs ended the game by scoring 32 of the last 55 points, winning by 16. Goshen made 49% of their shots - their second-highest percentage this season. GC led 45-15 in bench points and also had more assists and steals with fewer turnovers.
Kenny May had a double-double with 16 points, ten rebounds, four assists and three steals. It is the first double-double of his career and the first time he has had more than five rebounds in a game.
Kevin Cota had a career-high 20 points with five rebounds, shooting 62% from the floor.
Saiveon Williams had seven points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and went 2-2 from the floor and 3-4 at the line.
Kamren Williams had 17 points and
Deecon Hill scored a career-high ten points.
