Knights flip the script after halftime to beat Goshen

Marian outscored the Leafs by 15 in the second half to win 69-53

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Goshen led by as many as six in the first half, but the Knights outscored Goshen by 15 in the second to win 69-53 and improve to 2-1 in the Crossroads League.

Goshen quickly went up 6-2 less than two minutes into the game and Marian used a timeout. GC led 10-4 before the Knights went on a 7-0 run to take an 11-10 lead. It was one of seven lead changes, but the most crucial lead change happened right before the end of the half. Dylan Moles made a layup with eight seconds remaining to give Marian a 30-29 lead. They held that lead all the way through the second half.

The Marian lead was 38-37 when they went on an 11-0 run and held Goshen scoreless for five and a half minutes to go up by 12. It was a part of a larger 19-4 run - a span where the Leafs went 2-13 from the floor with five turnovers. The Knights had seven turnovers in the first half compared to Goshen's four, but those numbers flipped in the second half - as both teams finished the day with 11 turnovers. While Goshen held Marian to shooting 2-16 from three, just 13%, the Knights had an overall field goal percentage of 43% compared to Goshen's 30%. The Leafs shot better behind the arc than in front of it - shooting 36% from deep. Marian led in rebounds 48-38 and dominated the points in the paint 38-12.

Tyrelle Hunt finished with 14 points. He has scored at least nine points in every game he has played in as a Maple Leaf. He was 6-13 from the field with five rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. Marcus Northern had 13 points, and continued his consistent presence this season, as he has scored ten or more points in every game. He was 3-4 from three but 5-13 overall with five rebounds and two steals. Braden Allen had eight points and four steals. Besides Hunt, Northern, and Allen, four other Maple Leafs had four or more steals - Juraj Minarovjech, Saiveon Williams, Kevin Cota and Kenny May. Minarovjech tied a GC career-high in rebounds with five. After going 25-27 (93%) at the line in their most recent game against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, the Leafs were 7-12 (58%) tonight.

Goshen (4-6, 0-3 CL) is at Taylor on Saturday, December 6, at 3:00 pm - a day after the Trojans' 28th annual Silent Night game.
