Men's Basketball struggles against Mount Vernon Nazarene

Northern makes career-high five threes

GOSHEN, IN – The Goshen Maple Leafs faced a tough league contest at home on Saturday, where they were defeated by the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars with a final score of 73-101.

Goshen played strong early, going on a 10-2 run to go up 25-16. However, MVNU responded with a 25-2 run and led 41-27. The Cougars went 9-14 from the floor in that span and had 11 point off of six Goshen turnovers. The Leafs went 1-12 from the floor in that same span. The Cougars later used an 18-0 run in the second half to take their lead to 35 points before Goshen would cut it to 28.

Top performances for the Maple Leafs came from Richard Wilson, who scored 23 points and Marcus Northern with 19 points. Northern made a career-high five three-pointers while Wilson had his sixth 20+ point game of the season. Judah Simfukwe scored nine points in the first five minutes but went 0-3 for the rest of the game. Saiveon Williams had season-highs with five rebounds and two blocks. Jacob Eyler's four points was a season-high and Kenny May scored his first career points. Bailey Conrad of Mount Vernon was a major factor in their win, amassing 34 points against the Maple Leafs' defense.

Looking forward, Goshen College will hit the road to face Marian on Wednesday, February 5.
