Neat reaches 2,000 career points in road loss to Spring Arbor

Mohamed shines with 21 points and 16 rebounds

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - Zion Neat eclipsed 2,000 career collegiate points with a third-quarter free-throw on the road at Spring Arbor on Thursday night. After scoring 866 points at Columbia International University, Neat has scored 1,134 points as a Maple Leaf. Although Goshen won the January matchup, Spring Arbor won this time around 84-56.

Neat is now 15th all-time on the Goshen College women's basketball all-time scoring list. If her two seasons worth of stats at CIU had been at Goshen, she would be the all-time leader in points at GC.

Goshen was outscored in each quarter and quickly found themselves down seven after the first quarter. The Leafs missed all seven of their three-point attempts in the first and were just 2-14 from the field. However, they were 6-6 at the free-throw line.

The free-throw success continued through the game, as they finished 19-21 from the line. Yet the three-point woes also continued, and the Leafs finished 3-22 from deep. This was just the second game they finished with a field goal percentage under 30%.

Syanne Mohamed was a bright spot for the Leafs, putting up a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds. She made 7-8 free-throw attempts and added two blocks and two assists. Neat finished with 13 points, putting her career total at exactly 2,000 points. She was 3-14 from the field but 5-5 at the line. Ava Lickliter scored seven points and Paula Ferrer Nolla had six coming off the bench.

Goshen hosts Taylor for Senior Day on Saturday, February 15, at 1:00 pm. Immediately following the game, Goshen's nine seniors will be recognized - Ava Lickliter, Emme Boots, Syanne Mohamed, Seja Lang, Kiana Oelling, Paula Ferrer Nolla, Zoe Zellers, Hannah Clark and Ellie Fausnaugh.
