GOSHEN, Ind. - The Maple Leafs dropped a conference matchup against Taylor, 55-80. Seniors
DJ Bryant and
Richard Wilson were honored before tip off for their collegiate careers.
The Leafs and Trojans were neck and neck in the first half. The score was locked at 27-27 going into halftime. The Trojans used a 7-2 to run to start the half, etching them ahead, 36-29. A
Juraj Minarovjech three-pointer cut the deficit to four, but that would be as close as the Leafs would get during the course of the game.
The Trojans outscored the Leafs 53-28 in the second half, routing to a 80-55 victory over the Leafs.
Marcus Northern led the Leafs in scoring with 20 points. This is Northern's second 20 point game of the season, with his other 20 point performance coming on the road against Taylor. Northern also grabbed six rebounds, which ties a season-high in a conference game.
DJ Bryant added 13 points and dished out three assists. Bryant's 13 points is his second-most of the season. His four made free throws ties a season and career-high.
Saiveon Williams added three blocks. This is Williams' fifth straight game with multiple blocks.
Baran Aslan dished out three assists, which is his season-high.
The Leafs will be back in action this Wednesday, February 19th, when they host Indiana Wesleyan. Tip off is set for 7:30 pm.
Here is what was said about the seniors during their recognition before the game:
Fans, we would now like to recognize our 2025 men's basketball seniors. These two seniors have lived full lives of faith, unity, learning, and leadership during their time as Goshen College student-athletes. Today we would like to individually acknowledge their careers.
The first to be recognized is #12,
Richard Wilson! Richard is being escorted by his parents Yvette Archie and
Richard Wilson. He is a business administration major looking to get into the continuous improvement process. After school, he plans to play overseas and have a real estate portfolio to generate enough passive income. Coach Capps says "Richard's basketball journey has taken him to many places, and we were truly blessed to coach him this year. From day one, he has shown incredible growth, both as a player and as a leader. A gifted scorer who never hesitates to take the big shot, Richard's confidence on the court is matched by his selflessness and commitment to the team's success. His leadership and willingness to sacrifice for the greater good have been invaluable. We are excited to see what the future holds for him and wish him nothing but the best in what God has planned for his journey." Thank you, Richard!
Our second senior is #2,
DJ Bryant! DJ is being escorted by his parents Derrick and D'Juana (Da-Wan-NA) Bryant, his sister De'Erika Bryant and his son Dallas Bryant. DJ is a business major with a minor in accounting. His future plans are to get a job in the accounting industry and continue to grow within the field. Coach Capps says "Knowing DJ since high school and witnessing his growth into the remarkable man he is today has been a true privilege. He has been an exceptional leader for our program, overcoming significant adversity with resilience and determination. DJ's willingness to speak his mind is one of the many qualities we admire about him. His unwavering accountability — both with his teammates and coaches — sets him apart and is a key reason why he would make an outstanding coach if he chooses that path. DJ is truly one of a kind — irreplaceable in every sense." Thank you, DJ!
