SYLVANIA, Ohio - After a first set win, the Goshen men's volleyball team lost the next three sets to Lourdes on the road on Friday night. The Gray Wolves won 24-26, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17.
Lourdes led 17-14 in the first set when the Leafs went on a 5-0 run to go up two. Lourdes tied it up at 21 apiece, but Goshen scored three in a row to get to set point. The home team answered with three in a row of their own, and head coach
Jeff Phillips used a timeout, as Goshen now needed two points in a row. They got just that as they went back on the court, from a kill by
Ben Koop and an ace from
Bruno Barac to win the set.
Yet over the course of the next three sets, Lourdes had 23 more kills than Goshen after GC had the advantage by two in the first set. The Maple Leafs ended with more aces, fewer service errrors, more blocks and fewer reception errors, but the Gray Wolves dominated in kills, hitting percentage, assists and digs.
Goshen had ten kills from
Ben Koop, nine from
Alessandro Olgiati and eight from
Bruno Barac. Olgiati had a .333 hitting percentage, five digs and two aces. Barac led the team in digs with 12 and aces with three.
Andrea Biffi came away with five block assists and
Igor Sapucaia totaled 26 assists.
Goshen hosts Aquinas on Tuesday, February 25, at 7:00 pm.
