INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Zion Neat had 17 points in the first two quarters, but a rough third quarter from the Maple Leafs created the separation that #15 Marian needed as the Knights went on to win 77-45 on Wednesday night.
The Leafs started 3-4 from three with two from Neat and one from
Carrie Hiler in her first career start. That forced Marian to use a timeout to regroup. Both teams shot the ball well in the first quarter, as the Knights and Leafs had field goal percentages over 55% and three-point percentages over 60%. Goshen was down six at the end of the quarter and Neat already had 12 points. Goshen held Marian to just ten points in the second quarter, but had just ten of their own as the lead stayed at six going into halftime. Neat made seven of Goshen's ten buckets at that point, going 7-11 in the half and 3-5 from deep.
The Goshen offense struggled to get back in a rhythm when they came back out for the third quarter. GC had a scoring drought that lasted eight minutes and 38 seconds which spanned the end of the second quarter and a majority of the third quarter in which Marian went on a 19-0 run.
Seja Lang hit a floater at the buzzer, but the Knights outscored the Maple Leafs 27-4 in the quarter. Goshen had 11 turnovers in the quarter and 30 in the game, their most since a loss against Indiana Wesleyan on January 18, 2023. Marian took a 29-point lead at the end of the third to a 32-point win, 77-45.
Neat finished with 21 points and four rebounds. She shot 8-13 and was 3-5 from three.
Seja Lang and
Syanne Mohamed had five points apiece and
Ava Lickliter led the team with five rebounds, five assists and four steals. The only other time this year that the same player has lead the Leafs in those three categories was when
Lillian Null did so against Bethel in November.
Paula Ferrer Nolla made her first three as a Maple Leaf in the game and Lang's five points tied a career-high.
Goshen hosts Grace on Saturday, February 8, at 1:00 pm.
