GOSHEN, Ind. - Softball lost a pair of games against #18 Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday evening. The Wildcats won 13-9 and 15-0.
Game One
The Maple Leafs struck first in game one with a two-run home run from
Bianca Diamond in the first inning. Goshen left the bases loaded to end the inning though, and left three runners on base over the next two innings as well. Goshen starter
Esme Pico allowed two hits and no runs in the first three innings. However, IWU scored seven runs in the fourth inning on six hits to take a five-run lead.
The Wildcats scored six more runs over the next three innings. Goshen had a four-run bottom of the fifth that saw an RBI single from
Brinleigh Arredondo and a two-RBI double with the very next batter,
Kamille Badibanga. Badibanga scored a run on an error later in the inning and the Leafs were within two. After the sixth it was still a two-run deficit with both teams scoring twice in the inning. Down five in the bottom of the seventh, Goshen got an RBI single from
Bianca Diamond, but ended up losing by four.
Alyssa McDonald had a great game at the plate, going 4-5 and was just a home run shy of the cycle. She scored twice and improved on her program record for career triples, now sitting at 11 for her career.
Bianca Diamond had three RBIs and two hits with two walks.
Kamille Badibanga had two RBIs and
Celeste Gutierrez had the second two-hit game of her young career.
Carissa Fillingame reached base after being hit by a pitch three different times.
Game Two
The second game of the day went the way of Indiana Wesleyan from start to finish. The Wildcats had 15 runs on 14 hits whereas the Leafs were shutout and put up just two hits. Goshen also had four errors that led to five unearned runs. IWU had no errors in the game.
The Wildcats scored three in the first, six in the second and one in the third. After
Tatem Adams held them scoreless in the fourth, they put up five more in the fifth. After five innings, they had enough of a lead to win by mercy rule.
Goshen starter
Camryn Barrows had the loss and is now 2-2 this season. Between her and
Tatem Adams, the two pitchers threw four strikeouts and walked one. Goshen's hits were both singles from
Kaylee Kates and
Ella Mcleod.
Goshen (7-9, 3-3 CL) hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday, March 21, at 3:00 pm.
