Cougars take down Leafs, Saturday's games moved to Huntington

Saturday's action will be played at Huntington due to expected temperatures in Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. - Softball lost a pair of games to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Friday afternoon. The Cougars won 14-6 and 19-2.

Game One
MVNU scored their 14 runs in just three innings, with four runs coming in the first, five in the fifth and five in the seventh. Goshen had four runs of their own in the first to tie the score, including a two-RBI double from Sydney Lockhart. The score stayed tied at four until the Cougars had the five-run fifth inning. Bianca Diamond had a two-RBI single in the sixth inning to pull within three, but that was the last of the GC scoring.

Grace Schmitt had the loss and threw 6.2 innings. She has a 2-3 record and a 5.03 ERA over 32.0 innings this season. Goshen's six runs came from six different players, as well as their six hits. Diamond and Lockhart had two RBIs apiece. The top four in the batting order all had a walk - Kaylee Kates, Bianca Diamond, Shea VanScoter and Alyssa McDonald.

Game Two
Mount Vernon Nazarene scored at least two runs in every inning of game two, a game they needed just five runs to complete due to the run rule.

After three from the Cougars in the top of the first, Brinleigh Arredondo hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first and Carissa Fillingame walked with the bases loaded later in the inning to make it 3-2. After Arredondo's single, the Leafs only had one more hit in the game - another single from Arredondo in the third inning.

Esme Pico had the loss, now at 2-5 this season after her 3.1 innings on the mound. Kaylee Kates, Carissa Fillingame and Camryn Barrows each had two walks. Kaylee Kates and Bianca Diamond scored the Goshen runs.

Due to the expected temperatures in Goshen, the Maple Leafs will head south to play their games against Huntington at Huntington on Saturday. Game one will start at 2:00 pm. The April 19 games will then be played at Goshen.
