HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Softball lost a pair of games on the road at Huntington on Saturday, 9-2 and 12-6. The games were moved to Huntington due to the temperature in Goshen not being high enough to play there.
Game One
Goshen has given up 30 runs in their most recent three matchups with the Foresters after only allowing nine in the three games before that. Huntington had three three-run innings - coming in the first, third and fifth. They had ten hits and also walked five times.
Shea VanScoter pitched all six innings for the Maple Leafs. Seven of the runs were earned.
Sydney Lockhart had an RBI groundout in the second inning and
Alyssa McDonald hit an RBI double in the third. McDonald had two of Goshen's four hits, and both were doubles.
Ella Mcleod and
Carissa Fillingame both hit singles.
Game Two
The Leafs put up four quick runs in the first inning of game two, capitalizing on two Huntington errors in the inning. The Foresters took the lead after three first-inning runs and two in the second. GC responded in the third when
Ella Mcleod scored on a passed ball and
Brinleigh Arredondo hit an RBI single. Huntington had a big seven-run fifth inning that led to a 12-6 win.
Despite their four errors in the game, the Foresters offense produced 14 hits. Goshen had no errors and nine hits.
Camryn Barrows had five strikeouts in 5.2 innings but also five walks.
Alyssa McDonald went 3-5 with three singles. Her .483 batting average is sixth in the Crossroads League. Freshmen
Tatem Adams and
Brinleigh Arredondo had two hits each.
Celeste Gutierrez had all three of Goshen's walks.
