Maple Leafs drop two games in Fort Wayne

Goshen had no strikeouts in the five-inning game two

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Goshen lost a pair of games at Saint Francis on Friday despite a solid effort in the circle and at the plate by Grace Schmitt in game one. The Cougars won 4-3 and 9-1.

Game One
Grace Schmitt hit a two-RBI single up the middle in the top of the first to score Bianca Diamond and Shea VanScoter. USF scored once in the first and picked up another in the second to tie the game. After a run in the fourth they were up 3-2.

Goshen tied it in the sixth when Alyssa McDonald hit an RBI groundout and VanScoter scored. However, in the bottom of the seventh, the Cougars ended it on a walk-off homer to win 4-3.

Schmitt threw six innings, allowing three earned runs and seven hits. Saint Francis starter Alexa Huth is now 8-0 on the year. Schmitt had two of Goshen's five hits - all five were singles. VanScoter scored two of Goshen's three runs.

Game Two
Goshen scored first in game two, but it was followed by nine unanswered runs by the home team.

Ella Mcleod had a first inning RBI single that scored Shea VanScoter to make it 1-0. Esme Pico allowed two earned runs through three innings, but the score jumped to 7-1 once she was removed with no outs in the bottom of the fourth. Saint Francis finished with five runs in the inning and added one more in the fifth to win 9-1 by mercy rule.
