Adams has 5-5 day as Goshen splits at Taylor

VanScoter homers and throws complete game in game two

UPLAND, Ind. - Tatem Adams went 5-5 over two games and Shea VanScoter threw a complete game and hit a home run in game two as Goshen split a doubleheader with Taylor on the road on Tuesday. The Trojans won game one 5-3 but the Leafs took game two 7-3.

Game One
Goshen left eight runners on base in game one. The Leafs had nine hits in the game - one more than Taylor had - but eight were singles.

GC led first with an RBI single from Carissa Fillingame in the second inning. Taylor had a few RBI singles of their own in the second and third innings and took a 4-1 lead. Shea VanScoter hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Fillingame followed it up with her second RBI single of the game, this time in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to one. Taylor scored once more in the sixth but the Leafs didn't have an answer in the top of the seventh.

Carissa Fillingame was 2-3 with two RBIs. Tatem Adams was 2-2 with a run and Sydney Lockhart scored twice and hit a double. Camryn Barrows allowed five runs but only two earned runs in five innings pitched. Grace Schmitt allowed no earned runs in one inning in relief.

Game Two
The Maple Leafs put up another nine hits in game two, but this time they were able to convert more into runs. They started the game with Rachel Kates getting on base with a walk and Shea VanScoter coming up next with a two-run home run. Taylor also had a two run shot in the first, and neither team scored in the second inning. In the third, Goshen took the lead again with Tatem Adams' double to left center, which scored Alyssa McDonald.

GC scored in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings with RBI singles from Kamille Badibanga, Tatem Adams and Celeste Gutierrez. The Trojans only scored once in the last three innings for a final score of 7-3. Goshen has won three of their last four matchups with Taylor.

VanScoter pitched all seven innings, giving up three earned runs and three hits. She had three strikeouts and three walks and 111 total pitches. The Trojans threw 185 pitches, also over seven innings. At the plate, VanScoter was 1-2 with the home run, two RBIs, two runs, two walks and a stolen base. Adams went 3-3 with a double, two RBIs, a run and a walk. Before her five hits today, Adams had three hits on the season. She is now 8-18 at the plate, posting a .444 batting average. Badibanga had two RBIs, two walks and two stolen bases.

Goshen is at Grace on Friday, April 4, at 3:00 pm.
