Lopez saves ten as Leafs play to 0-0 tie with (RV) Olivet Nazarene

The Tigers played in the NAIA tournament a year ago

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen women's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie against Olivet Nazarene on Wednesday evening. The Tigers are receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll after posting a 9-6-7 record last season and playing in the NAIA tournament.

The Leafs had an opportunity to take the lead with just under three minutes to go. Sophia Yoder was out in front on a breakaway, but her shot attempt went just over the crossbar. The Leafs had seven shots during the night, but just one that was on goal.

The Tigers rattled off 25 total shots and had ten on goal. Aina Lopez had ten saves, and is allowing just 0.43 goals per game over her last seven games dating back to last season. In her previous games where she hadn't allowed a goal, she had made no more than five saves in any one of them. Her previous high for saves in a game as a Maple Leaf was eight against Indiana Wesleyan last year. This was the most saves for any Goshen goalkeeper while posting a shutout since Gracie Garcia's 11 against Huntington on October 29, 2022.

The closest opportunity for ONU came in the 17th minute, as Sofia Diaz had a shot that hit the post. Sophia Yoder had five of Goshen's seven shots and has seven of Goshen's 19 shots on the year. Natalie Boulier had a shot and Evyn Pruett had Goshen's lone shot on goal with 21 seconds to go in the game.

This was Goshen's first time playing Olivet Nazarene since 2000. The Leafs have a 2-1-2 record all-time against ONU.

GC is at IU-Northwest on Saturday, August 30, at 8:00 pm EDT.
