GARY, Ind. - The men's soccer team is now sporting a 4-1-1 record after a 3-2 road win at IU-Northwest on Wednesday night.
William Jackson,
Guilherme Moreira and
Eli Simones scored for the Maple Leafs. Goshen hasn't recorded a loss in their last four matches.
In the 13th minute,
William Jackson made sure to put on the pressure for what looked like a simple pass back to the goalie, Devun Collins, from a RedHawks defender. While the keeper was able to get the pass up ahead to a defender, he tripped and Jackson ended up with the ball again. As Collins approached him, Jackson found the perfect window beyond his outstretched arms, but tucked in right inside of the goalpost. This was his second goal of the season.
The second Goshen goal was on a free kick taken by
Eli Simones.
Guilherme Moreira was at the perfect spot for a header that he struck low. It bounced under the keeper's arms and found the back of the net to make it 2-0. This was his first goal of the season.
Goshen led 2-0 at the half, but the home team made it interesting with goals in the 51st and 57th minutes. Later in the half,
Alejandro Portocarrero took a shot inside the 18 that hit the hand of a defender and resulted in a penalty shot. Simones took the shot and connected in the bottom right corner.
The Leafs more than doubled IU-Northwest in shot production, winning the category 15-7.
Diogo Coelho led Goshen with six shots and four shots on goal. Simones had two shots on goal. Also with multiple shots were
Chaim Williams and
William Jackson.
Goshen (4-1-1) hosts IU-Columbus on Saturday, September 13, at 7:00 pm.
