Toledo gets assist in her first two collegiate minutes, Lang scores in 1-1 tie with Siena Heights

Lopez made a career-high 13 saves for the Leafs

GOSHEN, Ind. - Isaura Toledo played in her first match of the season on Wednesday for the Goshen women's soccer team and made a difference less than two minutes into her appearance. Her assist to Eliana Lang helped Goshen to tie Siena Heights 1-1.

Goshen was outshot 13-2 in the first half, but Aina Lopez had made eight saves by that point to keep the game scoreless. Toledo came in to the game to start the second half as a forward. A minute and a half later, Toledo, the third-string goalkeeper, had a free kick shot that hit the crossbar. Lang was there for the rebound and Toledo earned the assist.

The Leafs maintained their lead until the 81st minute, when Ruthie VanSkiver scored for the Saints on a loose ball in front of the goal that deflected off a Goshen defender before going in. Siena Heights outshot Goshen 32-5 in the game and had all nine of the corner kicks from the contest.

Lopez made 13 saves for Goshen, her most saves in a game. Her previous high at Goshen was ten against Olivet Nazarene on August 27, and her previous career high was 11 for Middle Georgia State against Columbus State on October 10, 2023. She is ranked second in the NAIA with 47 total saves so far this season and is first among teams that have at least one win or tie.

The last time in program history that a GC goalie made 13 or more saves in a win or a tie was Katie Baer's 13 saves in a 1-0 win over Huntington on October 13, 2018.

Goshen (1-2-3) is at Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday, September 13 for a noon kickoff. Julia Tasker, Michigan-Dearborn's goalkeeper, is the current NAIA leader in saves.
