Toledo continues strong start with a goal in 1-1 tie at UM-Dearborn

Aina Lopez is tied for the NAIA lead in saves this season with 54

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. - Isaura Toledo scored her first collegiate goal as Goshen tied at Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday. This is the fourth tie for the Leafs this year and the third by a 1-1 score.

Toledo made her debut in Goshen's most recent game against Siena Heights, where she immediately got an assist a couple minutes after getting on to the pitch. This time, she did the scoring from a cross by Sophia Yoder. Toledo hit it with her chest and Goshen tied up the game in the 80th minute. Michigan-Dearborn had scored in the 58th minute after the teams were scoreless after the first half.

Goshen only had five shots compared to the Wolverines' 14. However, all five of Goshen's shots were on goal. Toledo had one, Natalie Boulier had another and Sophia Yoder had three. Aina Lopez made seven saves for Goshen. Julia Tasker made four saves for UM-Dearborn, which means the two goalies are currently tied for the NAIA lead in saves this season at 54 each. The teams played to a 1-1 tie last year as well, only it was in Goshen.

The Maple Leafs (1-2-4) are at Lourdes on Thursday, September 18, at 2:00 pm.
