GOSHEN, Ind. - More than a sixth of Mount Vernon Nazarene's points came from aces, as they defeated Goshen in three sets on Saturday afternoon. The #15 Cougars won 25-12, 25-10, 25-12.
The score was 12-10 in favor of MVNU in the first set when the visitors extended their lead to 20-10. They went on to win five of the last six points as well.
Goshen had their best hitting percentage in the second set, but so did Mount Vernon. The Cougars had a .545 hitting percentage in the set, which they started by winning the first five points. They were up 19-4 at one point, but both teams won six of the final 12 points in the set.
The third set was more of the same, as MVNU led 8-0 early on. Goshen had seven attack errors in the first two sets but 11 in the third set alone. The Cougars finished the day with 13 aces while Goshen had none.
Armani Guidry-Austin had four kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
Brenna Spangler led the team with five kills.
Sydney Stutsman led the group with eight assists and
Kassidy Faler had ten digs - her first double-digit dig performance in the last five matches.
This was the fourth ranked or receiving votes team that Goshen has played this season - all in the last two and a half weeks and all against Crossroads League opponents. Goshen hosts Huntington on Wednesday, September 24, at 8:00 pm.
