Diegues scores in tie with #15 Marian

Goshen hasn't lost a game in more than a month

GOSHEN, Ind. - Pedro Diegues scored on a ball from Adrian Gonzalez Martinez and the Goshen men's soccer team tied 1-1 against #15 Marian on Saturday afternoon in Goshen. The Maple Leafs have yet to lose in the six home matches they have played this season.

With two ties to start the conference season, Goshen has two points in the standings through two league matches for the first time since 2017. It is the first time they have had no losses through two conference games since 2014.

Marian came into the game with a 6-2-2 record while Goshen was 6-1-2. Goshen came out very strong from the start. Goalkeeper Gabriel Viau only needed to make one save in the first half. The Leafs were called for 11 first-half fouls and two yellow cards. The Knights led in shots 5-2.

Marian got on the board in the 55th minute as Donovan Doolittle sent a cross across the box to Gustavo Nunes, who scored his eighth goal of the season. It didn't take long for Goshen to respond however, when Pedro Diegues scored on a header from a corner kick by Adrian Gonzalez Martinez in the 62nd minute.

Marian took 14 shots in the half, but Viau made four saves in the 45-minute span. GC had six shots in the half. The Knights had four second-half yellow cards and the Leafs had one. Along with Diegues, William Jackson and Nicholas Whitaker had shots on goal. Jackson led the team with three total shots taken.

This was Goshen's first tie or better against a ranked opponent since a 1-1 draw with Indiana Wesleyan on October 7, 2023. The Wildcats were also ranked #15 at the time. After losing four straight to Marian from 2020 through 2023, Goshen has tied in the last two games.

The Leafs are at Taylor on Wednesday, October 1, at 7:00 pm.
