WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The Goshen College women's volleyball team dropped a 3–1 decision to (RV) Grace College on Friday evening.
The Maple Leafs opened the first set with the first two points, but Grace responded with a 10–2 run to force a Goshen timeout. The Leafs pulled within three at 11–8, but that was as close as they would get, as Grace took the set 25–17.
Grace carried its momentum into the second set, jumping out early and eventually earning a 25–21 win. Goshen fought back late, using a 4–0 run to cut the deficit from 24–17 to 24–21, but a Grace kill closed the set.
The third belonged to Goshen. Behind a kill from freshman
Nevaeh Benjamin and three Grace attack errors, the Leafs built an 11–7 lead. After a close stretch, a kill by freshman
Amelie Martinez sparked a 7–3 run, lifting Goshen to a 25–17 victory. Grace, however, regained control in the fourth, closing the match with a 25–14 win.
Despite the loss, Goshen committed just 11 attack errors - their fewest in a four-set match since Oct. 30, 2018.
Martinez led the Leafs with a career-high 15 kills and added three blocks, also a career-high. It marked her third consecutive match with double-digit kills. Benjamin added 12 kills and four blocks, both career highs, while notching her fifth 10+ kill match of the season.
Junior
Brenna Spangler tied her career-high with eight blocks, matching her performance from Oct. 13, 2023, against Calumet.
The Leafs will return back to action on Wednesday, September 10th, as they travel to Spring Arbor for a 7 p.m. match.
