Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Justin DeWeese

Foster has another monster game in loss at MVNU

Foster had a double-double with eight minutes still to go in the third quarter

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Kyla Foster already had a double-double with eight minutes to go in the third quarter, but the Mount Vernon Cougars topped the Maple Leafs 67-54 on the road on Wednesday evening.

Foster stole the show for the Leafs - finishing with 17 points and 22 rebounds. In the first quarter, she already had six points and nine rebounds while the Cougars had seven rebounds combined. Down six, the Leafs and Cougars each scored 15 points in the second quarter, and the Leafs trailed 32-26 at the break. Foster had eight points and 13 rebounds by this point and Goshen led in total rebounds 27-14.

The Cougars created a little more separation in the third and fourth quarters, taking a ten point lead at the end of quarter three. Foster secured her double-double and racked up her total to 13 points and 19 boards as they headed into the fourth. Goshen led in offensive rebounds 15-2 at this point but struggled shooting the ball from three and behind the line. Goshen finished 14% from deep and 53% at the free-throw line as MVNU won by 13.

Foster has recorded a double-double in her last three games against Mount Vernon Nazarene, and has scored ten or more points in five of the six games she has played against the Cougars. Her rebound total has increased each time she has played them - going from four to seven to nine to ten to 13 and finally to 22. In her 37 minutes of play, she had just one turnover. Eight of her 22 rebounds were on the offensive end. The career-high in rebounds is the most by a Maple Leaf in the last decade and two away from the school record of 24 set by Dana Selzer in 1994.

Carrie Hiler scored 11 points, tying a career-high in a conference game, with three rebounds but was just 1-8 from three. Ava Egolf had eight points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals but went 3-14 from the field and 0-4 from three.

Goshen hosts Grace on Saturday, January 17, at 1:00 pm.
