MISHAWAKA, Ind. - In their third straight game against a top 15 NAIA team and just four days after taking #11 Indiana Wesleyan to overtime, the Goshen men's basketball team faced #10 Bethel on the road in Mishawaka. The Pilots led from start to finish in a dominating 110-61 win for the home team.
The Pilots scored the first five points of the game and had a 10-0 run later in the first half over a 6:25 scoring drought for the Leafs. Bethel led 46-24 at the break, shooting 45% compared to Goshen's 30%. While the Maple Leafs had a more modest 37 points in the second half, Bethel put up 64 of their own and improved their field goal and three-point percentage. They finished with 16 made threes on 38 attempts and shot 55% overall. Goshen had a narrow edge in free-throw percentage - 63% to 60%.
Marcus Northern was Goshen's lone double-digit scorer with 11 points. He has scored ten or more points in 20 of his last 21 games.
Saiveon Williams scored nine off the bench on 4-5 shooting and also brought down six rebounds, his highest total for a Crossroads League game this season. Two of his three highest scoring games this year have been against Bethel.
Joshua Gentry had a season-high eight points on 3-4 shooting.
Deecon Hill and
Caleb Thompson both went 2-4 from deep to finish with six points each. Bethel had seven double-digit scorers, led by 19 from Andrew Hedrick.
Juraj Minarovjech had a career-high six rebounds.
Goshen faces Marian at home on Saturday, January 31, at 3:00 pm - their only unranked opponent in a stretch packed with ranked teams.
