MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Scoring runs to start the first and third quarters made much of the difference in Goshen's defeat on the road on Wednesday evening at Bethel. The Pilots had an 11-0 lead to start the game and used a 9-0 run in the third quarter on the way to an 86-46 victory.
The Pilots connected on their first five shots of the game and quickly established a double-digit lead. However,
Carrie Hiler scored 11 points during a 14-2 run for Goshen. The Leafs had a 14-13 lead at that point, but that was their last lead of the game. GC had a 5:41 scoring drought and Bethel was up 34-23 at the half.
The Pilots had 11 turnovers in the first two quarters, but they diminished that to three over the next two. They had a 9-0 run to start the third and Goshen used a timeout. BU scored 33 points in the third quarter alone and finished with a field goal percentage of 55%. The dominated in rebounding, 42-23.
After Hiler's quick 11 points, she had just two more over the rest of the game. She finished with 13 points and was 2-7 from three. She was 5-6 at the free-throw line, but the rest of the Maple Leafs combined to go 3-13 at the charity stripe.
Kyla Smith had a season-high with ten points. She had scored eight points over her last six games combined. Lucia Luque Morales led the team with five rebounds.
