GOSHEN, Ind. - Men's basketball scored 84 points against Saint Francis on Saturday afternoon, but they allowed more than 50 in each half in the loss. USF won 105-84.
Goshen was up 25-22 more than halfway through the first half. But at that point, USF went on a 10-0 run that extended to a 20-3 run and a 29-8 run going into the half. The Cougars led 51-35 at the half and had eight straight points in the second half to go up 69-47.
After a technical foul on Cougars' Karson Rogers, Goshen had a 5-0 burst and then an 8-2 run to make it a ten-point game with under ten minutes to go. However, a series of missed buckets and turnovers resulted in the Leafs not scoring another field goal until there was 4:15 to go in the game - ending a streak of 11 straight missed shots. USF hit the century mark with 2:23 to go in the game and won 105-84.
The Goshen bench was forced to step up, scoring 56 of the team's 84 points, or 67%.
Jacob Carlson led all GC players with 14 points and four three-pointers - both season-highs.
Deecon Hill set a career-high with 13 points and tied a career-high in made three-pointers.
Juraj Minarovjech scored in double figures for a second-straight game. He had only had one such game in the season and a half before that.
Caleb Thompson had a season-high seven points and
JP Jabbour scored his first career points.
Marcus Northern had a career-high seven made free-throws but shot just 2-13 from the floor and had two quick fouls.
Kevin Cota had four fouls early in the second half and
Kenny May shot 1-5 - playing just 14 minutes after playing 20+ in every game prior.
Goshen (7-8, 0-5 CL) is at Huntington on Wednesday, January 7, at 7:30 pm. Huntington is receiving votes in the coaches' poll.
