HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Goshen controlled the paint and Huntington dominated from behind the three-point line as the #20 Foresters improved to 8-0 at home this season with an 85-64 win over the Maple Leafs. Goshen outscored HU 43-41 in the last two quarters.
Huntington went up 8-2 early and shot 58% in the first quarter. Goshen put up many shots in the first quarter - grabbing eight offensive rebounds - but converted on just 21% of their attempts and were down 11 after one. The second quarter was much of the same. The Foresters continued to dominate from deep, going 8-12 while Goshen was 0-10 behind the arc at the half. The Leafs still led in rebounds and had a 12-2 edge in offensive rebounds. When they returned, the Leafs were rejuvenated - scoring as many points in the third quarter as they had in the first two combined. Goshen made their first three-pointer of the game in the fourth quarter. The strong presence in the paint wasn't enough to overcome an early deficit, despite outscoring the home team in the final 20 minutes. The Foresters came out on top 85-64.
Goshen had 52 of their 64 points come in the paint while HU had 30 points in the paint. GC had three more rebounds and three fewer turnovers, and led in offensive rebounds 18-8. Huntington made 15 three-pointers compared to two for the Leafs.
Goshen had five players score in double-digits.
Kyla Foster had an impressive double-double with 13 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
Ava Egolf added 13 points, her fifth double-digit scoring effort in the last six outings.
Zy'Ann Phinezy scored 11 as well as
Nasiya Gause.
Lillian Null had her first game this season with ten or more points and two or more assists. Lucia Luque finished with a season-high six offensive rebounds.
After facing two ranked foes in a row, Goshen hosts Spring Arbor on Saturday, January 10, at 1:00 pm.
