Morris records another career double-double in the Maple Leafs loss to Marian

Corey and Guidry-Austin also pulled stand out numbers in the match

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Women's volleyball hit the road to take on the Marian University Knights. The Maple Leafs lost 19-25, 15-25, 20-25.

After falling behind early in the first set, the Leafs fought back to tie the set at four thanks to kills from Armani Guidry-Austin and Sami Lard, as well as an ace from Carmin Corey. The teams were then tied at five, six and seven, before Marian pulled a two point advantage. The Knights would keep this margin until the score was 16-14, before they went on a 6-1 run to give them a seven point advantage. The Leafs then went on a 4-1 run courtesy of kills from Ava Schneider and Guidry-Austin as well as a service ace from Bri Morris, before a kill and a service ace from Marian gave them the set.

The Knights got off to a fast start in the second set, leading 12-4 before GC could put together any form of scoring run, which came in the form of a 2-0 run through a kill from Corey and an ace from Jessie Price. With the score at 17-8 Goshen went on a 5-1 run, with four Marian attack errors and an ace from Corey. This was GC's best run of the set. The Knights then went on a 7-2 run, culminating in a kill from Ava Tindall to win the set.

Kills from Corey and Guidry-Austin and a service ace from Mary Osten gave GC a 6-3 lead to start the third set. From here, the Knights found their rhythm, going on a 7-3 run. GC got back on level terms, tying the game up at 12 and 13, before the Knights stamped their authority on the game. Despite the Leafs' best efforts, they couldn't get back into the set, losing 20-25.

Corey recorded 14 digs in the match, the second highest of her career — her career high came against Calumet College of St. Joseph last week. She also had a career high of three aces. Morris has 11 digs and 23 assists, her third career double-double. Guidry-Austin had a .500 hitting percentage, her third-highest of the season.

The Maple Leafs are back in action when they travel to Ohio to take on the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars on Wednesday, Oct. 14. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
