MARION, Ind. - Women's volleyball traveled to Marion, Indiana to take on the #16 Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats, where the Maple Leafs lost 15-25, 14-25, 16-25.
The Leafs and the Wildcats got off to an even start in set one. Carmin Corey, Ava Schneider, Armani Guidry-Austin and Railynn Bowman all got kills as the teams were level at six. The Wildcats stamped their authority on the set from here, limiting Goshen's scoring runs until the score was 22-11, where three IWU errors and a kill from Corey gave Goshen a 4-1 run. Two Goshen errors gave IWU the set.
In the second set, the teams traded points until they were tied at four. IWU then took control, going on an 11-3 run. Two IWU errors and two kills from Sami Lard gave Goshen another 4-1 run to bring the set to 16-11. IWU then went on a 9-3 run to win the set.
The teams yet again got off to an even start, being tied at three before IWU took control of the third set. Most of Goshen's points in the set came from IWU errors, with Corey, Bowman and Dannika Miller being the only Maple Leafs to score kills. Goshen put together a 3-0 run late in the set, before a 3-1 IWU put the set, and ultimately the match, to bed.Â
Miller's kill in the third set marks the first of her career. Lard had six kills, her most since the Leafs played Huntington last month. Schneider posted her fourth match with three or more blocks.
The Maple Leafs will play the University of Saint Francis Cougars on Wednesday in Fort Wayne. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
