GOSHEN, Ind. - Women's volleyball fell to the Taylor Trojans 3-0 on Staff Appreciation Night— after a tight battle in the first set, the scores went in Taylor's favor 25-20, 25-14, 25-13.
The first set was a balanced matchup for the first eight points, as neither team could pull ahead thanks to some stellar defense from the Leafs. Taylor then went on a five point run to give themselves the lead, and though the Maple Leafs got themselves within striking distance, they just couldn't quite pull ahead.
In the second set, the Leafs struggled with serve receives, as three of the Trojans first four points came off of aces from Azure Flagle. The Leafs had a few good runs, including one 4-0 moment that featured kills from Armani Guidry-Austin and Carmin Corey, but didn't manage to fully see the comeback through before the Trojans put the set to bed.
Set number three started similarly to the second, with the Trojans coming out to an early lead thanks to an ace, and the Leafs were just not able to recover in time, as a kill from Reagan Kleiman took the match.
Guidry-Austin and Corey led the Leafs in kills with six apiece, and this was Guidry-Austin's fourth match of the season with four or more blocks. Carle Bruggema also managed to find two aces of her own, as well as one from Bri Morris.
The Maple Leafs are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 10 as they travel to Indianapolis to take on Marian University.
