Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Kate Bodiker

Corey, Schneider, and Bowman top 20 kills on the day in losses to Point and Florida National University

Despite taking the first two sets, the Leafs couldn’t convert against FNU

GOSHEN, Ind. - In the second day of the Keiser tournament, Goshen's performance improved in both their match-ups over yesterday. In the first set against Point, the Leafs held even with the Skyhawks for the first 16 points, but after a run of five Goshen couldn't recover the deficit.

The second and third sets played out nearly identically — holding until 16 and then a run of four and five respectively from the Skyhawks broke down the Leafs defense and they could not get back the points. Overall, much closer sets than in the first game on Friday.

Carmin Corey and Railynn Bowman once again led the Leafs in kills in this match, each with 11. They were closely followed by Ava Schneider with 10. Mary Osten led the team in aces that match with 2, and Sydney Stutsman and Carle Bruggema led the assists with 18 and 16 respectively.

The face off against the Conquistadors proved to be the closest match of the weekend, as Goshen won their first two sets of the year. The differences were similar across the first four sets, other than a series of runs in the fourth set that led to Goshen's loss 25-12.

The fifth set proved to be worth the wait as both teams started the set with a run of four points before equalizing out for the rest of the points. In the end, despite a late three point run to tie things up at 14 from the Leafs, after one more exchange of points it was the Conquistadors who closed out the set, taking the win 17-15.

Schneider had a dominant performance against FNU, ending the match with 14 kills and three digs. Bowman and Corey were once again not far behind with 11 and nine respectively, with Bowman also recording four aces. Stutsman and Bruggema once again led in assists as well.

Though Goshen leaves Florida 0-4 on the season, they are back in action on Friday, Aug. 21 at the Blue Angel Bash, where their first opponent will be Mount Mary University at 1:30 EST.
