Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kate Bodiker

Women's Soccer falls on the road to Lawrence Tech in a physical matchup

Toledo's five saves not enough to hold the Blue Devil's offense

In their first contest of the season, the Maple Leafs fell short to Lawrence Tech 4-0 after a physical match. The match began fairly back and forth in terms of shots, both teams picking up two in the first twenty minutes.

The Blue Devils were able to convert in the 21st minute resulting in a goal for Abigail Gray, who was assisted by Stephanie Crawley. In the following minutes, things even back out again as both teams traded shots and made substitutions in the latter portions of the half.

In the 41st minute though, the first caution was awarded in the form of a yellow card for Natalie Boulier, which was followed less than a minute later by another Blue Devils goal. This one was scored from Megan Rumija and assisted by Hinana Takashima.

Coming out of the halftime break, Takashima scored an unassisted goal less than two minutes into resuming play, getting her name back in the books.

In the 58th, Goshen received their second yellow in the match, this time coming against Eliana Lang. About 10 seconds later the Leafs earned a penalty kick that was taken by Johannah McDonald, but she was unable to convert after a nice save from Mary Cecilia Michalak for the Blue Devils.

In the 82nd minute, Rumija picked up her second goal of the match, firmly cementing the win for Lawrence Tech and netting an assist for the first goalscorer, Gray.

The Leaf are back in action on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. for their home opener where they will take on Cornerstone.
