MILWAUKEE, Wis. - On day two of the Blue Angel Bash, the Maple Leafs faced Mount Marty and Waldorf in the conclusion to their early season tournaments. Despite a 3-0 loss to both teams, Goshen had several standout players on the day.
Armani Guidry-Austin had her best performance of the season, leading the team in kills in both matches and coming away with a season high three blocks for the team in their contest against Mount Marty. She had 15 kills on the day, with five coming in the first match and 10 in the second, and was also hitting .526 against Waldorf. When facing Mount Marty she also earned the first point of the set with a nice kill in two of the three sets.
Carmin Corey finished out the weekend as consistent leader in kills for the team as well, tying Guidry-Austin in the first match with five, and coming close with eight kills against Waldorf.
The freshman Bri Morris also tied with her fellow freshman Lila Quinones to lead the team in aces with two, earning some of their first point for the Leafs. Morris also led the Leafs in assists in their first match with twelve, following with another twelve against Waldorf where she trailed only slightly behind Carle Bruggema, who recorded fourteen in that match.
In both matches, the Leafs started out on the back foot, falling 25-11 and 25-12 in the first two sets to Mount Marty and 25-12 and 25-14 to Waldorf. However, in both matches, they successfully scored more points in each set they played and ended the third sets 25-19 and 25-21 respectively. They never stopped battling and came close to drawing the game out further in both cases.
The Leafs are back on the court with the first serve of Crossroads League action on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. as they take on the Taylor Trojans on the road.
