KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Women's soccer finally broke their no-loss streak after falling on the road to Kalamazoo College. The Hornets came away with a 2-0 scoreline in their favor.
The Maple Leafs held their own for the beginning of the first half — allowing a few chances, also grabbing a few of their own as well. However, after a goal in the 15th minute from Savannah Norman, who was assisted by Anna Courtney, some of the wind seemed to go out the Leafs sails.
By no means did they hang their heads or give up, but they struggled to regain the possession differentials that had been pretty even early on. Both Hailey Ballast and Amara Torrey picked up four saves on the night, helping keep the Leafs in the match.
The final goal of the match came in the 69th minute, scored by Callie Abair and assisted by Kearsten Schultz and Anna Courtney. However, in the grand scheme of things, the GC defense did strong work to hold off the Hornets attack, as they did lead the Leafs in shots on goal 10 to 1.
Page Mora picked up that only shot on goal for the Leafs, finally almost back to full form after her injury last year.
The Maple Leafs are back in action on Saturday, Sep. 19 at 2 p.m. as they travel to take on the Crimson Pride of IU Columbus, their last match before conference play begins.
