GOSHEN, Ind. - Women's volleyball welcomed #7 Indiana Wesleyan University to the Ruth Gunden Gymnasium, before falling 25-12, 29-27, and 25-16.

The Wildcats jumped out to a fast start in the first set. For every Goshen point, IWU would go on a run of two or three points, slowly consolidating their advantage. The Maple Leafs did not put a single run of more than two points together throughout the set as they ultimately lost 25-12

The Wildcats put up a 3-0 run to start the second set. From there, the Leafs then went on an 11-3 run, including a hat-trick of aces from Carle Bruggema and kills from Carmin Corey and Sami Lard. The Wildcats would then slowly eat into the Leaf's lead, pulling the game to within 2, before three kills from Corey and a series of attack errors from the Wildcats gave the Leafs an eight point advantage. The Wildcats then put together a 13-3 run, to bring it to set point. The Leafs then fought back to get to set point with the score at 27-26, before a 3-0 run, culminating in a brace of kills by Marin Sanchez gave the Wildcats the set.

The Wildcats got out to another strong start, holding a 10-6 lead before an ace from Carmin Corey and a kill from Railynn Bowman put GC back on level terms at 10. The Wildcats then put together a 10-0 run, including four aces from Payton Barendsen, leaving the score at 20-10. The Leafs pulled the score back to 23-16, before a kill by Wildcats senior Breanna Tubergen and an attack error gave the Wildcats the set, and ultimately, the match. 

Bruggema had four aces in the match, a career high, improving on her previous career high of three. Corey had 12 kills in the match, equalling her season high, which she has achieved three times this season.  

The Maple Leafs are back in action at home on Wednesday, Sep. 23 at 7:30 p.m. against the University of Saint Francis Cougars.
