GOSHEN, Ind. - Women's soccer recorded their first home win of the season as they defeated the University of St. Francis of Illinois on a scoreline of 2-1 at the Goshen College Soccer complex.

The Maple Leafs started the first half quick, taking five shots before the 10 minute mark. Neither side really made the goalkeeper work until the 20th minute when Sophia Yoder's shot was blocked by the USF goalkeeper, and the ball fell to Johannah McDonald, who found the back of the net from a few yards out for the first goal of her career. A couple of minutes later, the first half hydration break was implemented due to the high heat in Goshen, and not much came for either team after that in the half. 

Overall it was quite a clean game — the first yellow card of the contest came in the 26th minute, when Fighting Saints' Cara Paneta received a caution. The only other card came for a foul on the Fighting Saints, which ended up with Natalie Boulier picking up a yellow. 

The first 15 minutes of the second half was much like the first half, at least until the 61st minute, when the ball bobbled across the USF box. Eliana Lang, Jemima Potter and Yoder all swung at the ball before the ball ended up at Potter's feet again, and her shot trickled into the back of the net for her first career goal. 

Not even two minutes later, USF got a foothold in the game when Carisma Rosales floated a ball into the Leaf box, and Alyssa Villafuertes' looping header found the back of the Goshen net. 

Overall, GC recorded 31 shots on the night, the most in a game in three years. This match also marked the first time that multiple freshmen scored in a game since last season when May Boudreau and Evyn Pruett scored on Huntington. The Leafs recorded 15 shots on goal, the most they've had in a game in two years.

The Maple Leafs are back in action at home once more to take on the Cleary University Cougars on Wednesday, Sep. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
