Women Show Off Depth in Win Over Michigan-Dearborn

GOSHEN, Ind. — Tyra Carver scored a game-high 14 points, one of four Maple Leafs to hit double figures, and 14 Goshen players got in on the scoring action Tuesday night as the Goshen College basketball team trounced Michigan-Dearborn 93-42 at Gunden Gymnasium.

Carver scored her points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor: Goshen was 39-for-81 as a whole. The Maple Leafs (4-0) pulled down 25 offensive rebounds and 61 boards for the game, a season high: Gabby Williams posted her second straight double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Keshia Ward and Lynnia Noel grabbed nine caroms apiece.

Sophia Sears had 13 points for Goshen: Ward scored 12. The hosts' defense limited the Wolverines to 23 percent shooting and a single made three-pointer in addition to the advantage on the glass.

Sears, Noel and Allie Lake each posted five assists.

Goshen, which is 4-0 for the first time since 1999, hits the road for its first regular-season away games this weekend. The Maple Leafs head to the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill., on Friday and Trinity International University on Saturday. Tip-off on Friday is set for 6 p.m. EST.
