Vanitvelt Posts Seven Kills But IWU Prevails in Three

Box Score

MARION, Ind. — Hallie Vanitvelt posted seven kills in the final regular-season match of her freshman season, but Indiana Wesleyan had little trouble defeating the Goshen College volleyball team in three sets Wednesday afternoon.

The Wildcats, ranked no. 23 in the NAIA and Crossroads League co-champions, took the three sets 25-20, 25-18, 25-12. Goshen hit 12 winners in the first set and was never able to match that total again. Indiana Wesleyan had at least 15 in all three stanzas and hit .538 in the third.

Remy Bucknor had a match-high 15 kills for the Wildcats (28-7, 17-1 CL), one of three players to hit double figures in that category. She also added two solo blocks and an assist, therefore accounting in some way for 18 of her team's 75 points. Buckner hit .700 for the match.

For Goshen, Natalie Hubby added five kills: Lisa Rodriguez and Kelsey Smith had 11 assists apiece. Lexa Magnuson had Goshen's only solo block and Hubby made three assists.

Goshen finishes the regular season at 16-17 overall and 6-12 in conference play, earning the no. 8 seed in the Crossroads League tournament. The Maple Leafs will travel to Mount Vernon Nazarene and face the no. 1 seed Cougars in the quarterfinals on Saturday: first serve is set for a time to be announced.

More, including comments from Goshen coach Jim Routhier, to come when available.
