Taylor Uses Late Run To Finish Volleyball Sweep

GOSHEN, Ind. — Taylor University used a 40-18 run over the final two-plus sets to sweep Goshen College on Friday night in a Crossroads League volleyball match at GC's Gunden Gymnasium

Addy Bailey and Becca Gerig finished with seven kills each for the visiting Trojans, one behind Christy Swartzendruber, who led all players with eight winners for GC.

Taylor finished with 35 kills, 13 more than the Maple Leafs (10-10, 5-7). The Trojans won the first set 25-21 before falling behind 9-6 and 14-10 in the second. After Taylor (14-8, 9-3) used a 6-0 run to re-take the lead, Goshen leveled the score again at 17, 20, 21 and 22.

The visitors closed out the second stanza with two kills and an ace, then jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third and never trailed again.

One bright spot for Goshen came at the net, where the Maple Leafs recorded eight blocks to Taylor's four. Lindsay McQuinn was part of six stops for GC, while Addy Bailey was involved in all four stuffs from the other side.

Ally Roehr led Goshen with 11 assists in the 76-minute match, one more than Hallie Vanitvelt posted. Danielle Plank paced GC with 12 digs.

Goshen returns to action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. match against Marian: that opens a stretch of five matches in four days as the Maple Leafs visit the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Fort Wayne.
