Fourth-Quarter Run Extends Women's Win Streak To Three

Box Score

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — Gabby Williams posted a double-double and Liz Tecca scored 17 points Saturday as 19th-ranked Goshen knocked off Bethel 77-60 in Crossroads League women's basketball.

After a 21-20 first quarter, the Maple Leafs (21-7, 13-3 CL) used a 25-11 run in the second stanza to lead by 15 at halftime. The Pilots (12-16, 7-9) closed to within 10 points four minutes into the final quarter before Keshia Ward and Liz Tecca combined for a 7-0 run to seal the win.

Tecca finished with 17 points and set the school record for most field goal attempts in a career. She shot 6-for-12 on the day, including 4-for-8 from three-point range. Jo'Mani Thomas scored 16 points, while Gabby Williams posted 12 assists and 12 rebounds.

"Going into the Pilots' house is never easy especially with the way they have been playing the last few weeks," said Goshen coach Stephanie Miller. "In our last two wins at home we finished games and got wins but didn't put together 40 minutes of good basketball. This win was a solid 40 minutes of team basketball and I couldn't be more proud of my team for completing the season sweep. I'm glad we were able to put a solid 40 minutes together on the road and control the intangible effort stats that we needed to close out."

GC dominated the boards, pulling down 56 rebounds to Bethel's 29. Keshia Ward grabbed nine caroms while Thomas and Lynnia Noel had seven apiece. Goshen had 19 second-chance opportunities thanks to offensive rebounds.

"Liz shot the ball really well today and several players absolutely cleaned up the glass," Miller said. "We played such a physical game that Bethel struggled to keep pace on the boards. We controlled the tempo well and put some key spurts together when we needed a run."

With the win, Goshen sweeps the season series from Bethel for the fourth time in the 24 seasons the schools have shared a conference: it is the first time ever that the Maple Leafs have swept Bethel in both men's and women's basketball and the first four-game head-to-head win streak for the Maple Leafs since a four-game run from 1985-90.

GC can finish no worse than a tie for second in the conference. The Maple Leafs cannot catch Marian for the conference title but could lock up the second seed on Wednesday when they host Taylor. That game is also Senior Night as Goshen recognizes a quartet of graduating seniors.
