Loss At IWU Snaps Women's Winning Streak

Box Score

MARION, Ind. — Goshen College's four-game winning streak in women's basketball came to an end Wednesday night in a 69-40 loss to no. 17 Indiana Wesleyan.

The host Wildcats (19-6, 8-5 Crossroads League) shot 15-for-31 in the first half, including a 4-for-7 mark from three-point range, and scored 38 points in the opening 20 minutes. Goshen (18-7, 10-3 CL) outscored IWU 13-7 in the third stanza to creep back into the game before Indiana Wesleyan sealed the win with a 24-14 fourth-quarter run.

Chelsea Winner scored a game-high 13 points for the Wildcats, one of three players in double figures for IWU, as she ensured that her team's result would match her surname.

Keshia Ward led Goshen with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Tyra Carver added nine. The Maple Leafs were held to six assists against 14 turnovers but assisted on 46 percent of their baskets.

Indiana Wesleyan posted a 46-31 advantage on the glass, a decided reversal from the teams' Jan. 6 meeting, in which Goshen outrebounded the Wildcats 46-27 in a 75-67 win. Jessica Brown and Erika Isham each posted a game-high nine rebounds. Gabby Williams and Jo'Mani Thomas led the Maple Leafs with five caroms apiece.

Despite the loss, Goshen's mark is still good for second place in the conference, two games better than IWU and St, Francis. With Mount Vernon Nazarene's loss, Goshen clinches a berth in the season-ending CL tournament. The Maple Leafs play three of their final five regular-season games at home starting Saturday, when they host Huntington at 1 p.m.
