Box Score EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — Ginyce Haywood opened the scoring and Janeth Vela added a second-half insurance goal as the Goshen College women's soccer team knocked off Calumet College of St. Joseph 2-0 Tuesday night at East Chicago Central High School.
Haywood used an assist from Melanie Drinkwater to open the scoring three minutes and 11 seconds after the opening kickoff. Vela added her goal with 24:28 left on the second-half clock off an Ardys Woodward assist.
Goshen (3-3-1) outshot the Crimson Wave 14-9, but the hosts (1-5) held a 7-5 edge in shots on frame. Natalie Thorne made five saves in goal and Molly Zook two for Goshen. The Maple Leafs took six of the match's nine corner kicks.
GC returns to action on Saturday night with a trip to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to take on Cornerstone University. Kickoff time is set for 7 p.m.
