Box Score

MARION, Ind. — The Goshen College women's basketball team found its stride with 34 second-half points Wednesday but needed more in an 83-56 loss to Indiana Wesleyan University at Luckey Arena.

Carley O'Neal scored 14 points to lead Goshen (1-10, 0-2 Crossroads League) while Sydney Stein added nine on 4-of-6 shooting.

Indiana Wesleyan (8-2, 2-0), the 23rd-ranked team in Tuesday's NAIA Division II coaches poll, scored the last six points of the opening quarter to lead 18-10 after 10 minutes and stretched out a 35-22 lead at the half.

O'Neal and Keyaira Murff each scored five third-quarter points for GC, which hit half of its 10 shots from the floor in the quarter. Goshen was unable to take advantage of eight IWU fouls, however, and the Wildcats made up for nine misses with three 3-pointers and five offensive rebounds to post a 32-point quarter.

Goshen outscored IWU 17-16 in the fourth period behind points from six players, including 3-pointers by Alyson Prigge and Claire Rauck. GC tossed in 17 points in each of the final two quarters, making the second half its best offensive output against an NAIA side since dropping 35 on Aquinas in the second half on Halloween.

Indiana Wesleyan tracked down 28 rebounds after halftime and 54 for the game, allowing Nicole Ignasiak to post a double-double with 10 points and 14 boards. Mikayla Martinie added eight caroms off the bench while Anna Imhoff rode a 5-for-10 mark from long range to a game-high 23 points.

The Maple Leafs got five rebounds from Donnae Lipinski and four from Murff, who led all players with three blocks to stretch her season total to 20. Mariah Roe added three assists for GC, which forced 22 turnovers in 40 minutes.

Goshen's stretch of four straight games against ranked opponents concludes Saturday with a visit to number-17 Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, where tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
