Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Elizabeth Breckbill's 7 kills and Taylor Eash's 4 blocks paced the Goshen College women's volleyball team in a three-set loss to Spring Arbor University on Saturday afternoon at the MacDonald Athletic Center. The Cougars capped their Crossroads League season by winning all three sets at the same 25-18 margin.
Allison Ford registered 11 kills and Kasey Follis 9 for Spring Arbor (17-11, 8-10). Claudia Ellis added 6 winners to go with a pair of solo blocks. SAU recorded 5 blocks in the match and limited itself to 11 hitting errors while getting more than 60 percent of its points (46 of 75) from kills.
The Maple Leafs (8-25, 2-15) got 4 kills apiece from Riley Woods, Sydney Cruz and Hallie Vanitvelt, totaling 27 kills and 23 errors on 99 attempts. Naomi Willis led GC with 13 assists and Meghan Manley posted 11 of the team's 37 digs.
Annica Stotz had 21 assists and Hope Notter 18 for SAU, which got a match-high 15 digs out of Stephaney Fifield.
The Cougars jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first set, which saw them finish with 17 kills and a .324 hitting percentage, and took seven out of eight points at one juncture in the second stanza on the serve of Emily Martin. The third set opened with two Ford kills in the first four points before one of Stotz's match-high 2 aces made it 17-9 SAU.
Spring Arbor hit .238 or better in all three sets, posting at least 14 kills in all three cases. The Cougars accumulated 105 attack attempts.
