Box Score MISHAWAKA, Ind. — Graysen Cockerham dropped a career-high 19 points in her first taste of the Goshen-Bethel women's basketball rivalry Wednesday night, but the Pilots topped the Maple Leafs 84-75 in Crossroads League action at the Wiekamp Athletic Center.
Claire Rauck scored 11 points in the first half for the Maple Leafs (6-4, 0-2), who led 20-15 at the quarter and put up 39 points in the half behind 16-of-29 (55.2 percent) shooting.
Bethel (7-3, 2-0) led 40-39 at halftime behind 14 points from Kelsey Brickner and 11 from Kamala Glenn. The hosts made half of their 32 shots in the first 20 minutes; each team connected 6 times on 3-pointers.
Cockerham led the Maple Leafs with 12 points in the second half, going a perfect 5-for-5 at the foul line to augment 3-of-4 shooting from the floor. TaNiece Chapman and Mariah Roe each scored 6 points and Alyson Prigge had 5, including her team-high fourth triple. Prigge scored 16 points in the game, coming one shy of her career high.
The Maple Leafs shot 52 percent (13-of-25) from the floor after halftime, but Bethel again connected on half of its shots (14 of 28 this time) to stave off Goshen's hope for a comeback. Cockerham made a personal five-point run to turn a 44-42 Maple Leaf deficit into a 47-44 lead three minutes after halftime, but Bethel took the lead back for good at the 5:35 mark.
BC scored 22 points in each of the last two quarters, leading 62-55 after three periods. All five Bethel starters finished the game in double figures and the two starting forwards (Jessica Erwin and Brickner) were a perfect 9-for-9 on free-throw tries.
Cockerham led all players with 6 rebounds, one more than both Erwin and Brickner, and added a game-high 3 steals. Both point guards -- Goshen's Haley Archibeque and Bethel's Maci Heimlich -- posted 6 assists, and both teams' assist runners-up finished with 4.
Up Next: Goshen visits Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday as the Maple Leafs play their second consecutive Crossroads League road game. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. in Luckey Arena, followed by the men's game at approximately 3 p.m.
