GOSHEN, Ind. — Graysen Cockerham led the Goshen College women's basketball team with 18 points and 8 rebounds Wednesday night as the Maple Leafs came up short 66-57 against Huntington University in Gunden Gymnasium.

Sarah Fryman scored a game-high 30 points for the Foresters (11-7, 4-3 Crossroads League) while Brooke Saylor added a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. The Maple Leafs (7-12, 0-7) got 12 points from Alyson Prigge and 6 boards apiece from Keyaira Murff and TaNiece Chapman.

While the team shooting percentages were almost indistinguishable before halftime, the Foresters hit on 6 of their 10 three-point tries to take a 33-27 lead into the locker room. Huntington racked up 16 rebounds in the first quarter alone and ended the half with 21 rebounds and 7 takeaways.

The Maple Leafs got within 3 points twice in the third quarter on baskets by Cockerham and Chapman, but the Foresters responded with a score on the next possession each time. A Fryman 3-pointer got the lead into double figures with 2:10 remaining and Goshen could get no closer than 5 points the rest of the way.

Neither team shot particularly well over the final 10 minutes, allowing the rebounders to combine for 17 boards, but Goshen went 8-of-10 at the foul line and Huntington 5-of-18 to rack up a 35-point quarter in combination.

The Foresters finished the game at 40.4 percent shooting from the floor (23-for-57), including a 10-for-20 (50 percent) clip from long range. Goshen's corresponding figures were 33.9 percent (19-for-56) overall and 36.8 percent (7-for-19) from deep.

Goshen's Haley Archibeque led all players with 5 assists, but Huntington finished with a 13-11 team lead in the category. Murff and Saylor each blocked 2 shots and Huntington's Sam Hammel had a game-high 4 steals.

Goshen hits the road for its next two games, beginning Saturday at 1 p.m. at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne.
