Box Score INDIANAPOLIS —Jennifer Ritchie paced the Goshen College women's volleyball team with 7 kills Wednesday night in a three-set loss to Marian University in the Physical Education Center. The Knights posted the sweep by set scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-17.
Ally Roehr added 16 assists and Tessa Clark contributed 12 digs for the Maple Leafs (7-21, 1-11) while Ritchie and Roehr pitched in 11 digs apiece.
Madison Coles added 5 winners, Haylee Pennington had 4 and Taylor Eash joined Roehr with 3.
Marian (22-1, 10-1) got 14 kills from Skyler Van Note, 8 from Sarah Spangler and 7 from Jai-Lyn Norwood. Norwood led all players with 4 blocks and Van Note added 18 digs to go with a .520 hitting percentage on 25 attacks. Lexi Spence chipped in 21 assists and Maggie Meyer recorded 3 aces.
Goshen took two of the match's first three points for a 2-1 lead, but Marian answered in a big way by taking 11 of the next 13 rallies. The Maple Leafs led as late as 9-8 in the second set before MU used two 3-point spurts and an 8-point run to surge ahead.
In the third set, Pennington and Coles had early winners for Goshen, which didn't allow a run of more than 4 points and had a match-high 10 kills. The Maple Leafs finished the final stanza with 30 attack attempts to Marian's 27.
Goshen returns to northern Indiana and wraps up an eight-match road trip Friday night with a visit to Bethel. The Maple Leafs and Pilots will square off at 7 p.m. in the Wiekamp Athletic Center in the latest installment of the U.S. Highway 20 Cup.
